Why are Regular Dental Checkups & Cleanings Important?
For both children and adults, having a dental checkup and cleaning is essential at least every six months because cavities and other problems usually develop over time. Instead of waiting for a toothache, chipped tooth, or other dental issue to harm your kid’s smile, Dr. Roxanne can identify an issue before it interferes with your little one’s life. In addition, during this appointment, we can help teach your child the right technique so that they can practice better oral hygiene at home. Plus, getting a professional cleaning makes their teeth feel slick and refreshing!
What to Expect During a Dental Checkup
A dental checkup is extremely non-invasive and should begin soon after your baby’s first birthday. Dr. Roxanne will just quickly examine your child’s teeth, gums, and other oral structures visually for potential issues. When they are old enough to follow instructions, we will take X-rays, which Dr. Roxanne will look at as well, searching for developing teeth and any sign of trouble that may be hiding between teeth or under the gums surface.
After her examination, she will share her findings with you, discussing any follow-up treatment that may be necessary to keep their smile healthy and strong. She will also inform you about your child’s oral development and what to expect next as well as answer any questions you may have about their dental care and growth.
What to Expect During a Dental Cleaning
From the beginning, we want dental cleanings to be a comfortable, positive experience. As a result, we start with little ones with a regular toothbrush, talking to them about why it’s important to “get the sugar bugs.” As they grow and become more accustomed to these visits, we will begin regular teeth cleanings, using the specialized instruments that polish teeth. We will also demonstrate proper steps they should take on their own at home to maintain their smile.
